Turning Ta Dung Nature Reserve into a national park

The Prime Minister has approved the conversion of Ta Dung Nature Reserve in Dak Nong Province into Ta Dung National Park.

Ta Dung National Park is located in the administrative territory of Dak Som commune, Dak Glong district, Dak Nong Province. The total natural area of Ta Dung National Park is 20,937.7ha. Ta Dung National Park has three functional zones: the strict protection zone, the ecological restoration zone, and the service-administrative zone.
The mission of the management unit of Ta Dung National Park is as follows: to protect the entire area of ​​the existing forest; to establish zones for forest regeneration and restoration; to enrich natural forests; to incubate native and special rare plant species for new forest plantings in order to improve forest coverage and ensure environmental security; to raise the natural hazards protection capacity of the forest in terms of water retention, erosion, and flood mitigation and ecological environmental protection, thus helping to stabilize production activities and improve living standards for the people in downstream areas.
The Prime Minister assigned the Dak Nong People’s Committee to directly manage Ta Dung National Park, to direct the preparation of investment projects on the construction and development of the National Park and its buffer zone, as well as other investment and development projects. These projects shall be submitted to the competent authorities for appraisal, approval, and organization of implementation activities in accordance with the current regulations.
 
Accordingly, the related departments of the local government should implement policies on environmental services, conduct scientific research on conservation, and educate the local community to raise awareness on environmental protection and biodiversity. At the same time, the departments should organize activities to manage, protect, conserve, and develop precious and rare genetic sources; to rescue wildlife; to conduct scientific research; to train and develop human resources; to exploit the potential and advantages of ecotourism, the local landscape, environmental services, and biodiversity values, in order to increase the income of Ta Dung National Park and contribute to regional socioeconomic development.
