The Hanoitimes - Viet Nam Farmers’ Union (VNFU) and People’s Committee of Vinh Phu province co-organized a meeting in response to the National Anti-Tuberculosis Action Month and the World Tuberculosis Day (March 24).
Viet Nam, however, ranks 12 among 22 countries shouldering the burden of tuberculosis. Each year, some 180,000 got the disease and around 20,000 died of it.
According to Viet Nam’s statistics, up to 76% of the patients are farmers who have low living standards and receive limited first-aid treatment.
Over the past two years, VNFU has coordinated with 17 local-level farmers’ associations to deploy the Project “Global Fund Round 9 for Tuberculosis Prevention.” Under the project, farmers have helped each other to early discover tuberculosis or to improve their awareness of the disease.
