Tourism at seven provinces boasts significant growth
Tourism sectors of the seven northern and central provinces have gained significant growth rates this year, Nghiem Thi Thanh Nguyet, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Emulation and Commendation Department, said.
She was speaking at a recent meeting to review the tourist sector’s performance of the seven provinces, which include Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Ninh Binh, Nghe An, Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Binh.
According to Nguyet, Hanoi this year is estimated to welcome roughly 23.83 million visitors, up 9 percent, of which international visitors will make up nearly 5 million, up 23 percent.Total revenue from tourism expects to hit VND70.96 trillion, up 15 percent against last year.
Quang Ninh is estimated to serve 9.87 million arrivals in 2017, an increase of 18 percent against last year. International arrivals will be 4.28 million, up 23 percent. The province’s total revenue from the tourist sector is estimated at VND17.88 trillion, rising 30 percent compared with 2016.
The number of tourists to Hai Phong will also rise 12.45 percent o 6.7 million this year, of which international visitors reaches 811,000, up 8.42 percent. The city will earn VND2.65 trillion from tourism, up 11.6 percent against 2016.
Significant growth rates of 8-16 percent are also seen in Nghe An, Ninh Binh and Thua Thien – Hue, which will receive 5.9 million, 7 million and 3.78 million visitors this year, fetching the provinces VND5.89 trillion, VND2.4 trillion and VND3.52 trillion, respectively.
Notably, the number of visitors to Quang Binh this year is estimated to rise 70.9 percent to 3.3 million, of which international visitors will be at 100,000, up nearly 120 percent. The province’s total tourism revenue is estimated at VND3.7 trillion, up 64.7 percent compared to 2016.
At the meeting, leaders of the provinces’ tourist sector also admitted that there remains shortcomings needed to be resolve to boost the provinces’ tourism next time.
They said that tourism promotion to international markets is still limited and the development of tourism human resources does not meet demands. The shopping and entertainment services are also poor while there are only a few specific tourism products.
The leaders agreed that the provinces’ tourist departments will promote linkages next year with focus on implementing key solutions to meet targets, improving quality and creating the transformation.
As Quang Ninh will host the National Tourism Year 2018 the remaining provinces said that they will support Quang Ninh to promote the event.
With the themed “Ha Long - Heritage, Wonder - Friendly Destination”, the National Tourism Year 2018 will include 10 activities by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, 50 activities by Quang Ninh and 42 activities by 14 other cities/provinces.
Highlights of the event will be the opening ceremony and Carnival Ha Long 2018 in Ha Long city on 28 April 2018. The closing ceremony will coincide with to the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2019 and the Ha Long Golf Open Tournament in January 2019.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy emphasized that the National Tourism Year is a significant cultural and economic-social event of national scale. It is an important opportunity to introduce and promote cultural heritage values, aiming to attract more international tourists to Vietnam.
In addition to the two main events, there will be many other activities organized in Ha Long City, Uong Bi City, Tien Yen District, Quang Yen Town, Cam Pha City, Binh Lieu District, Mong Cai Town, Ba To District, Van Don District, Ba Che District, Hoanh Bo District, Dong Trieu Town, Hai Ha District and Dam Ha District.
