Vov/Hanoitimes 11:03, 2014/07/21
Contractors are stepping up construction work on three infrastructure projects worth billions of US dollars in capital Hanoi to ensure they will be put into operation late this year.

Nhat Tan bridge is being built at a total investment of VND13.6 trillion (US$639.2 million) sourced from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and the Vietnamese Government.

The bridge is 33.2m wide and 8.9km long, It is designed with eight lanes and sidewalks for pedestrians. Vietnam’s largest cable-stayed bridge is scheduled to open to traffic in October 2014.

As much as 97% of the project’s workload has been completed. All three bidding packages to build the main structure, approach bridge and access roads at both ends of the bridge are on course to meet the deadline.

A project to build a road linking Nhat Tan bridge and Noi Bai International Airport is entering the final stage.

The project has a total investment of VND6,742 billion (US$317 million), using official development assistance from Japan and the counterpart capital from the Vietnamese government.

The project management unit is accelerating land acquisition for bidding package No4 running across Mai Dinh commune of Soc Son district to ensure it will be open to traffic in October together with Nhat Tan bridge.

Last but not least, Terminal 2 of Noi Bai International Airport is a project of special importance. The four-story passenger terminal T2 covers an area of 139,216 square metres. Once completed late this year, it will be able to serve up to 10 million passengers annually.

Construction costs are estimated at JPY75.56 billion (US$968 million), including JPY12.6 billion (US$161 million) sourced from the Japan International Cooperation Agency loans.

About 85% of the project’s workload has been completed.
