Tanzanian Prime Minister expected greater cooperation between the two countries in the agricultural sector, especially in cashew sector.
In addition to agricultural products, both countries agreed to expand trade activities to textile, machinery, electronic devices, autos and motorbikes, which are Vietnam’s major export staples.
Deputy PM Dung said Vietnam would serve as the gateway for Tanzanian goods and products to access ASEAN market, expecting similar effort from Tanzania for Vietnamese goods to penetrate East African region.
Both Dung and Majiliwa urged respective government agencies to speed up negotiation for signing cooperation agreements, especially in investment protection and double taxation relief.
Majiliwa highly regarded the success of Halotel, Tanzanian subsidiary of Vietnam’s leading telecommunication company Viettel, in the country, expecting the company to lay strong foundation for other Vietnamese companies to invest in Tanzanian market.
After four years in Tanzania, Halotel has four million subscribers and with services covering 80% of the Tanzanian territory, creating 1,000 direct employees and tens of thousands of indirect jobs.
Additionally, Majiliwa expected more direct investment from Vietnam in fields of fishery and paddy cultivation, while agricultural and telecommunications should be the priority fields for cooperation between Vietnam and Tanzainia.
