Talk by artist Vo Tran Chau and researcher Tran Quang Duc

Exhibition of embroidered paintings, fabric sculptures and a unique form of mosaic tapestry/painting not often seen in Vietnam following artist Vo Tran Chau’s research about the Nguyễn dynasty in Hue city.
At the intersection of history and his-stories, Võ Trân Châu and researcher Trần Quang Đức (author of ‘A Thousand Years of Costumes’) will share their journeys, one in making artworks and the other in excavating alternative historical threads. The session will be facilitated by Nguyễn Bích Trà, Sàn Art Manager.
Võ Trân Châu (b. 1986 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) graduates from the Fine Art University of Ho Chi Minh City. Trân Châu is interested in investigating contemporary society through individual relations with each other and with the public. Born into a family of traditional embroiderers, she understands the languages of threads and fabrics and choose textile as the materials for her art practice. She employs found fabrics and used clothing, and items that are deeply personal and reflect private histories of different individuals to explore their connections with the contemporary society in Vietnam. Chau’s notable exhibitions include: ‘Suzhou Documents’, Suzhou, China, 2016; ‘EVA International, Ireland’s Biennale’, Limerick, Ireland, 2016; ‘Tracing’, Saigon Domaine, Ho Chi Minh City, 2015; ‘Petit and Smooth’, Nhasan Studio, Hanoi, 2015; ‘March: Art Walk’, Sao La, Ho Chi Minh city, 2015; ‘Black fog’, Nha San Collective, Hanoi, 2015; ‘Born from the land’, San Art, Ho Chi Minh city, 2012; ‘My sister’, San Art, Ho Chi Minh city, 2011.
Talk by Võ Trân Châu and Trần Quang Đức will be held on Sun 05 Mar 2017, 7.30 pm at Manzi Art Space.
