The kick-off event, held at the My Dinh National Stadium Hanoi, saw the first ever drive of F1 cars on a Hanoi street before the official race which is slated to start in April 2020 in the host city.
At the event, Coulthard and Dennis behind the wheels performed some eye-catching performances including acceleration and drifts with the 1,000-horsepower F1 cars that impressed thousands of people gathered in the stadium.
David Coulthard has won 13 Grand Prix and been honored in the podium 62 times. In May 2018, he wowed the crowd with the drifting and tyre-burning skills in an F1 racing show in HCM city.
“This kick-off event is the first activity of the year to promote the F1 Vietnam Grand Prix, bring the most fascinating race on the planet to Vietnam. The F1 will make Vietnam’s image reach out to the world as well as contribute to stirring up the atmosphere in Vietnam for sports events from now to 2030,” said Nguyen Viet Quang, general director of Vingroup – the biggest Vietnam private conglomerate.
Vingroup signed a multi-year contract with Formula 1 to host the Grand Prix.
Also at the show, F1 Vietnam Grand Prix announced the fares for next year’s racing. Accordingly, spectators will be able to pick three categories of tickets including Walkabout Tickets, Grandstand Tickets, and Hospitality Tickets. The Walkabout Tickets will cost VND1.75 million (USD$75) each for the three-day event of Practice day, Qualifying Day and Race Day. There will be 5,565 tickets available with promotion for the first buyers.
Vietnam launched construction of the F1 race circuit in March 2019 and is expected to be completed in December. The proposed track features 22 turns over its 5.565km length, inspired by the section of the race circuits in Monaco, Germany and Japan.
