Solo Exhibition “Du Ca” by artist Doan Xuan Tang
Chi Le 09:47, 2017/10/31
Exhibition of latest paintings by painter Doan Xuan Tang which feature landscapes and people of mountainous areas.
The solo exhibition “Du Ca” (Sing and Dance) by artist Doan Xuan Tang at Dong Phong Art Gallery, No 3 Ly Dao Thanh Street, Hanoi from 1st November to 30th November, 2017. Opening reception starts at 6 p.m on 1st November.
The artist will show his latest paintings at the exhibition, featuring landscapes and people of the mountainous area Du Ca. The paintings are done in acrylic, charcoal, golden leaves on paper and canvas. In “Du Ca”, mountain ranges are covered in clouds all year round. The bare feet were dyed by the miracle on top of the mountain. The bare feet “dance and sing” with the clouds and the wind. They wander through the mountains, drop into deep valleys, traverse streams beneath the sun, and suddenly fly off into infinite space.
The desire of the people of “Du Ca” to escape from the villages to seek happiness is captured by the artist’s depiction of their faces. But if people want to escape, why do so many people from the plains come to the mountains? Torment is carved on faces that pass from life to life; this obsession from generation to generation creates the illusions of a face, or sometimes three faces engraved onto each other?
The face is trying to immerse itself in contemporary life, but it can not erase its past, and can not be satisfied with its current face, but still reflects the joy of the future face. That face is no longer real and has no age nor ethnicity. It melts together, merging into the clouds – into the mountains – into the scenes. This private world seems unchanging but is changing a lot.
Is it true that this change is the inevitable part of society? But behind all of that, to the artist, “Du Ca” (Sing and dance) in this private world, this scene, this culture is always full of emotions and joys.
