Second fixed blood donation center opens in Hanoi
The second fixed blood donation center in Hanoi will make it easier for people to donate blood regularly, contribute to forming the habit of donating blood and giving blood in a sustainable way.
The National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) launched the second fixed blood donation center in Hanoi on October 10, local media reported.
The center, which can be found at the clinic in Nhan Chinh ward, 132 Quan Nhan street, Thanh Xuan district, is part of an attempt to address the issue of blood shortage in the capital.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Bach Quoc Khanh, director of the NIHBT, said that blood donation in Vietnam has seen remarkable progress over the past years but blood collection is mainly carried out by mobile blood collection teams, resulting in an irregular supply of blood, which in turn leads to blood shortage.
Hanoi is a city with high density of population which implies great reserve of blood, Dr. Khanh noted, adding that the second fixed blood donation center in the capital will operate regularly everyday of the week.
The director emphasized that the center will make it easier for people to donate blood regularly, contribute to forming the habit of donating blood and giving blood in a sustainable way.
Dr. Khanh hoped the center will be a benevolent address for residents in Thanh Xuan district to donate their precious blood and get periodic health checks.
Earlier, in June 2019, the first fixed blood donation center in the capital city was opened at Hoan Kiem clinic, 26 Luong Ngoc Quyen street, Hoan Kiem district. Over past three months, some 1,400 people have come to the center to give their blood and donated more than 1,200 blood units.
In 2018, Hanoi received over 223,000 units of donated blood which was insufficient for emergency and treatment as Hanoi is home to many central hospitals with huge demand for blood.
Donating blood has become widespread in Vietnam thanks to several campaigns to improve people’s awareness on the matter.
