Schools in Hanoi say no to plastic waste
Saying no to plastic waste is an action that cannot be done day by day but should be scaled up further by an individual, groups, and the community as well.
Schools in Hanoi have made efforts to raise students’ awareness of environmental protection and reducing plastic waste is part of the activities.
In recent days, many schools in the city have promoted actions on curbing plastic waste. For example, Tran Nhan Tong High School in Hai Ba Trung district has sent the messages to parents that urging them as well as teachers and students not to use plastic bags to wrap books.
“In response to the movement against plastic waste, we encouraged students not to use single-use plastic items, replace them by glass ones or environmentally-friendly products which are economical and effective,” the school’s Principal Vu Thi Hau told the Kinh te & Do thi newspaper’s reporter.
Recently, a group of students in Hanoi - Amsterdam Gifted High School kicked off a project titled "The Plastic Hero" with a view to protecting the environment, especially on curbing plastic waste.
The project aims to raise public awareness, and improve the future generations’ sense of responsibility on environmental protection.
In response to the movement, many primary schools in Hanoi have actively joined it with creative deeds, such as Doan Thi Diem Primary School, Star Hanoi Primary & Secondary School, among others.
Notably, at the opening ceremony for the new school year of 2019-2020, schools in Hanoi also gave message on environmental protection. Principal Nguyen Quoc Binh of Le Quy Don Secondary and High School (Nam Tu Liem district) said: “In this school year's opening ceremony, we told the students not to use disposable plastic bottles.”
CEO of Marie Curie Secondary and High School Nguyen Xuan Khang said that his students did not release balloons in the school opening day as they usually did in previous years. His school also urges students and parents not to use disposable plastic bottles and glossy bags in daily activities.
