Rolling out special stamp to welcome the ASEAN Community
Ministry of Information and Communications and Vietnam Corporation of Postal (VietnamPost) held a ceremony to launch the official stamp to welcome the ASEAN Community in Hanoi on August 7.
The stamp to welcome the ASEAN Community was also rolled out in other ASEAN member countries on the same day to celebrate the ASEAN Community’s establishment.
The ASEAN Community is slated to officially come into being on December 31 this year
It is the first time a common design for a stamp and postmark is being used in all ten ASEAN member states.
The stamp presents the “One Vision, One Identity, One Community” spirit of the community and the hope for a united, peaceful and prosperous region.
Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son said in the launching ceremony,
the stamp features the flags of each member nation in the form of a five-petal flower to portray the diversity yet solidarity within the bloc.
Designed by Vietnamese artist Vu Kim Lien, it has golden ears of rice below the flags that refer to the wet-rice agriculture, the regional way of life for generations.
The postmark was designed by another Vietnamese national, Nguyen Du, with the placement of the ASEAN emblem in the middle of the design wrapped by three circles in the form of a C which symbolise the “three pillars” of the ASEAN Community – Political-Security, Economy, and Socio-Culture.
The artists won the first prizes at the ASEAN post contest that took place in Thailand.
