Rio 2016: Vietnamese female badminton player wins first match

Vietnamese badminton player Vu Thi Trang defeated Indonesia’s Lindaweni Fanetri 2-0 in the women’s singles group J on the eighth day of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on August 13 (Brazil time).
With 21-12 and 21-11, Trang had a stunning victory over her Indonesian rival, helping her retain hope for entering the next round. 
Trang’s hope will become true if Fanetri trounces Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara, who earlier defeated Trang 2-0.

In the women’s 400m Round 1 of the athletics, Nguyen Thi Huyen of Vietnam finished her heat at the 6 th place with a time of 52sec 97. 
With the result, Huyen was ranked 43 rd out of 57 athletes and cannot gain a ticket to the semifinals. 
As scheduled, Huyen will compete at the women’s 400m hurdles on August 16 (Hanoi time). 
After the eighth day, Vietnam ranked 30th with one gold and one silver claimed by shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh. 
The US maintained its domination at the event with 24 golds, 18 silvers and 18 bronzes. It was followed by China and the United Kingdom.
