An Antraxit coal monolith currently displayed at the Museum of northern Quang Ninh province has been recognised by the Vietnam Book of Records (Vietkings) as the largest of its kind in Vietnam.
Vietkings and the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the record at a ceremony in Quang Ninh city on January 22.
The 22.2 cubic metre block of coal was found at a depth of 176 metres by a group of workers from Coc Sau Coal Joint Stock Company in 2012. It weighs around 28 tonnes with a gross calorific value of 7,800 Cal/g.
The recognition is intended to honour mine workers who are upholding and promoting the sector’s tangible and intangible values.
On the occasion, the department called for people of all strata, agencies, organisations and individuals inside and outside the province to continue collecting and donating objects with cultural and historical values to the Quang Ninh Museum.
