Many cultural activities to honor Vietnamese cultural values and education in the medieval period will be held at the Temple of Literature once the Covid-19 pandemic is contained.

Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam will deploy a non-profit project called “Temple of Literature Cultural Space”, which is aimed at introducing Vietnamese feudal times (939-1945) to visitors, scholars, and students in Vietnam and abroad through online and offline events.

According to the Management Board of the Temple of Literature, the project “Temple of Literature Cultural Space” not only covers a period spreading throughout the thousand-year with rich historical and cultural values, but also underlines the persistence of the Vietnamese traditional educational method.

The Temple of Literature is a place where students were taught knowledge and learnt about good ethics and traditions of the nation such as “Uong nuoc nho nguon” (When you eat a fruit, think of the man who planted the tree), “Ton su trong dao (Respect teacher- cherish book), among others.

Under the project, meetings, talk-shows, exhibitions or writing contests themed on Vietnamese culture and education will be held regularly at “Temple of Literature Cultural Space” once the Covid-19 pandemic is contained.

While events cannot be held off-line, people who are interested in Vietnamese education and culture can visit https://www.facebook.com/vanmieuquoctugiam for registering for some online events (English is available).

Khue Van Pavilion (Khue Van Cac) is a unique architectural work built in 1805 and a symbol of present-day Hanoi.

The cultural events of “Temple of Literature Cultural Space” will be organized by the Gavisto Diplomat Non-profit Cultural and Educational Project in collaboration with related units.

The Temple of Literature Hanoi is a rare example of well-preserved traditional Vietnamese architecture where it is dedicated to Confucianism and honors Vietnam’s finest scholars.

The temple was founded in 1076, under the reign of King Ly Nhan Tong, opening an academic education in Vietnam. It was the largest education center in Vietnam during the monarchy.

During its over 700 years of operation, Temple of Literature had trained thousands of talents for the country. It is considered Vietnam’s first national university and also an academic symbol of the feudalism of the country. This is not only an attractive relic for domestic and foreign tourists but also a place of praise for excellent students.

The historical relic is also on the list of 23rd National Special Monuments by the Prime Minister of Vietnam.
