New trial tour to explore Vom and Gieng Vooc caves
Visitors taking the tour to explore Vom and Gieng Vooc caves are offered exciting activities such as stream wading, slope climbing, and camping overnight in the forest as well as getting to admire the diverse ecosystem.
Quang Binh province has approved the operation of a trial ecological tour to explore Vom and Gieng Vooc caves at the World Natural Heritage site Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park from July 15, 2018 to January 15, 2019.
The information was announced by the Office of the Quang Binh provincial People’s Committee on July 11. The tour is operated by the Quang Binh-based Viet Hung Trade and Tourist Com.Ltd.
Vom cave is 4 kilometers from the Ho Chi Minh Trail. The mouth of the cave is 100 meters wide and 50 meters high. There is a lake in front of the cave’s mouth, requiring that visitors swim across to access the cave.
Inside the cave is a sinkhole, which is 200 meters high and 50 meters wide, and an underground stream which runs to the Chay River.
In addition, Quang Binh province has decided to pilot a two-day and one-night tour of the Dai A, Over and Pygmy caves at the cost of VND600,000 (US$26.6) per person.
Earlier, Oxalis tour operator, the only travel company allowed to organize tours to the well-known Son Doong Cave was allowed to pilot a two-day and one-night tour of the Va and Nuoc Nut caves, worth VND8 million (US$344) per person, and a one-day tour of Nuoc Nut cave at the cost of VND1.65 million (US$70) per person.
The new tours are part of a plan to diversify tourist products at the park. Lying in the ecological restoration area at the park, the Dai A, Over, and Pygmy caves boast unique and unspoiled natural landscapes. The Va and Nuoc Nut caves are incomparable due to their unique, grandiose, and magnificent beauty.
The Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park was recognized as a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 2003, thanks to its impressive scenery and archaeological value.
Quang Binh province welcomed over 1.8 million tourists in the first half of 2018, up nearly 17% year-on-year. Foreign arrivals surged by more than 22% with nearly 90,000 visits, according to the Quang Binh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
