The expressway connecting Bac Giang province, 45 kilometers northeast of Hanoi, with the border province of Lang Son, is also expected to enhance trade between Vietnam and China.
The Bac Giang - Lang Son expressway opened to traffic on September 29, reducing travel time from Hanoi to Vietnam’s border province of Lang Son by one hour to about 2.5 hours, Kinh Te & Do Thi newspaper reported.

In 2015, work began on the expressway with a length of 64 kilometers, including four lanes and two emergency lanes and a designed speed of 100 kilometers per hour and a total investment of over VND12,000 billion (US$523 million).

The expressway connecting Bac Giang province, 45 kilometers northeast of Hanoi, with the border province of Lang Son, is also expected to enhance trade between Vietnam and China.

The route runs parallel with a section of the existing National Highway 1A (Vietnam’s 2,300 km transnational highway) and its investors are allowed to collect toll for 17 years (2020-2037).

The Bac Giang - Lang Son section is part of the 143 km Hanoi - Lang Son expressway, connecting the capital with the Huu Nghi international border gate with China in Lang Son province.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung said that the expressway will help reduce traffic on National Highway 1 and boost local production and tourism in the northeast region.

Vietnam will have a road network size of 6,411 kilometers by 2030. Up to now, the whole country has built more than 1,000km of highways which development has contributed to promoting socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security, the deputy PM stressed.
