During the final round of the pageant, Vu Hoai Thu released a statement to the media that she had been disqualified by the organizing board on October 19.

During the preliminary round, one of the judges noticed that Thu's nose showed signs of cosmetic surgery. Following the accusation, the organisers invited Dr. Nguyen Huy Tho, head of the 108 Hospital's plastic surgery department, to examine the contestant. Tho agreed with the judge's claim.

After some deliberation, the organisers decided to ask Thu to undergo medical tests in order to continue in the contest. Thu refused, however, and when the organisers tried to reach her they were unsuccessful.

"We must disqualify Thu for arbitrarily leaving the contest, as well as refusing to abide by the contest rules," they announced in a public statement.

Thu replied later by saying she had been unavailable due to a stomach sickness, for which she claimed to have been hospitalised.

The organising board remains adamant, saying that she breached her contract and is no longer a viable contestant.
