Ministry prompts to hire consultants for Long Thanh’s site clearance project
The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MoPI) asked the government for hiring domestic consultants to support the land acquisition, compensation and resettlement project of Long Thanh airport.
The MoPI, in a document submitted to Prime Minister, calls for speeding up the approval for the feasible study report of the project.
Notably, the project with huge investment requirement can cause far-reaching effects and is more likely to raise litigation. Meanwhile, the State Appraisal Committee is inadequately qualified to monitor and define the total investment and compensation for site clearance, stated the Ministry.
Hence, the MoPI suggests to hire domestic consultants to examine the feasible study report, base on which to finalize the total investment for the project.
“Hiring consultants would cost more than VND1.3 billion (US$57.000)”, said the document of the MoPI.
As scheduled, the land acquisition project from 2018 to 2020, will pave the way for the three-phased-construction of Long Thanh airport. The first part is scheduled for completion in 2025 and will be able to handle 25 million passengers a year. The next two phases will run from 2030 to 2035 and from 2040 to 2050.
Specifically, expected acquired land covers an area of nearly 5.400 hectares with a lot of 1.165 hectares being cleared for the first phase. The construction of Long Thanh airport could cost a total of US$16 billion, and site clearance alone will cost an estimated US$1 billion.
Long Thanh, which will cover 5,000 hectares, is expected to replace Tan Son Nhat as the country’s largest airport with an annual capacity of 100 million passengers and five million tons of cargo. The airport is also set to become a key regional aviation hub.
