Director Phan Dang Di (2nd, from right)
The movie is about a gathering of U-50 classmates in a Mid-Autumn night. A beautiful, rich woman at the gathering thinks she now finds back love with her ex-boyfriend but finally this is not a happy-ending story to the couple.
Phan Dang Di continues to exploit the theme of father and son relations which is the same motif to his two previous movies, Bi, dung so (Bi, don’t be afraid) and Cha, con va nhung cau chuyen khac (Father, son and other stories).
The abnormal relations between father and son in Di’s movies are a metaphor of a generation gap in Vietnam, a country that used to be divided by the war.
Di said that he chooses to bring his film to the event as this is the biggest film festival in Asia and Asian Project Market is where producers, distributors and movie funds and representatives from other prominent film festivals come to search for the most potential projects.
“I feel familiar with Busan Int’l Film Festival as this is my fourth time to the event. Previously, I came here with Bi, dung so in 2007. I produced Dap canh giua khong trung (Flapping in the Middle of Nowhere) by Nguyen Hoang Diep in 2010,” says Phan Dang Di.
“The third time in Busan was with South-east Love film making team. This time, I and co-producers for Tiec trang tron have about eight meetings per day with film studios, distributors and movie investment funds.”
APM 2014 chose 30 among hundreds of films from around the world to provide investments. There were nine awards worth US$20,000 each at the film festival, including Heyi Film & Youku Tudou Award, CJ Entertainment Award, LOTTE Award, KOCCA Award, ARTE International Prize, Funding21 Award, Moneff Award and Creative Director Award.
Di’s upcoming plan is to go to France to do the post-production for Cha, con va nhung cau chuyen khac (Father, son and other stories).
