Lao Cai suggested to create an attractive business climate for investors
Speaking at the conference on investment and tourism promotion in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung noted that the province should create an attractive investment climate and direct investment on infrastructure and key products.
The conference on investment and tourism promotion in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai on May 8 was attended by Deputy Prime Minister (PM) Trinh Dinh Dung, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien, and more than 500 domestic and foreign experts and businessmen.
The event was jointly chaired by the provincial People’s Committee, the Steering Committee for the Northwestern Region, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV).
Addressing the conference, Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung suggested Lao Cai take full of advantages to develop itself into an economic hub in the northwestern region.
The Deputy PM noted that the locality should create an attractive investment climate and direct investment on infrastructure and key products, push forward administrative reform to pave the way for investors, pay attention to human resources development and boost cooperation with partners to promote investment.
Deputy PM Dung also stressed that the province should attach importance to ethnic issues, social order, environmental protection, and preservation of local culture while promoting tourism.
During the conference, delegates focused on discussing measures to attract investment and develop tourism in popular locations such as Sa Pa, Bac Ha, and Lao Cai city.
The event also witnessed the signing of tourism cooperation deals between Lao Cai and cities and provinces of Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Yen Bai, Lai Chau to promote tourism in the coming time.
At the event, the province presented investment licences to six businesses with the total registered investment of nearly 2,000 billion VND.
Endowed with high mountains and deep valleys, Lao Cai province has rich flora and fauna and cool climate. The locality is home to 25 ethnic groups with unique customs and traditional festivals.
Tourism sector has played a significant role to the local economy, contributing 11.5% of the provincial gross regional domestic product (GRDP) in the 2010-2015 period.
