By 2024, the landscape and infrastructure of the pedestrian precinct will be transformed.

Many renovations and improvements are on the radar as Hai Ba Trung District authorities look to improve the pedestrian zone around Tran Nhan Tong Street in 2024.

Among the major undertakings expected are the renovation of the Thien Quang Lake area, the conservation of Quang Hoa, Thien Quang and Phap Hoa pagodas, and the construction of a new public space.

With these improvements, the district hopes to make the Tran Nhan Tong pedestrian street and surrounding area a major cultural and tourist destination in Hanoi.

The local authorities will seek support from the city government and relevant agencies for the projects.

"We hope to receive guidance and support from the city, the Department of Culture and Sports, and other government agencies in carrying out our tasks," said Nguyen Quang Trung, Chairman of the Hai Ba Trung District People's Committee, at a meeting last week.

"In particular, we need their support in managing the street, carrying out renovations and restorations, adjusting the zoning of the area, and promoting activities there," he said.

The Tran Nhan Tong pedestrian street and surrounding area in Hai Ba Trung District was fully operational on December 30, 2022, with a 1.6km stretch of the street closed to traffic from Friday night to the end of Sunday.

The area became a pedestrian-friendly space with a variety of cultural and recreational activities.

In its first year of operation, the pedestrian street has hosted hundreds of events, including musical performances, art exhibitions, sports competitions, festivals and bazaars, which have been well received by residents and tourists.

Activities on the Tran Nhan Tong pedestrian street are becoming more regular, with the approval and large attendance of the people, said District Chairman Trung.

"The street has created a space for people to relax and enjoy themselves, and has also helped to raise awareness of cultural and information work in the area," he added.
