Japanese PM expresses concern about tension in East Sea
10:20, 2014/05/24
Japan is concerned about tensions generated by China’s unilateral illegal placement of its Haiyang Shiyou 981 oil rig in Vietnamese waters and supports Viet Nam’s proper stance.
Japanese Prime Minister Shizo Abe made the statement during a May 22 meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, who is in Japan for the 20th International Conference on The Future of Asia.

PM Abe said that Japan would continue to highlight the importance of law supervision and compliance.
He said that thanks to the Vietnamese Government’s commitments to ensuring a safe investment environment for foreign investors, Japan would continue to encourage its businesses to expand their investment in the country.
Deputy PM Dam expressed his gratitude to the Japanese Government for its support for Viet Nam’s legitimate stance, calling on Japan, together with the international community, to continue to condemn acts violating international law and threatening peace and stability.
Earlier, Deputy PM Dam met with a special advisor to the Viet Nam-Japan friendship parliamentary alliance (VJFPA) Tsutomu Takebe, Vice President of the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) and NEC Corp chairman Kaoru Yano, and International Friendship Exchange Council (FEC) President Ken Matsuzawa.
During the meetings, the Government official stressed the flourishing relations between the two peoples thanks to people-to-people exchange activities, Japanese investors and VJFPA’s contributions.
The hosts affirmed their support to Viet Nam’s proper stance on China’s infringement and protest against China's unilateral power-based acts that aim to change facts.
