The film Em Chua 18 (Jailbait), directed by Le Thanh Son, won the Golden Lotus prize for best feature film at the 20th Vietnamese Film Festival in central Da Nang city.

A romantic comedy, Em chua 18 is a love triangle involving high school student Linh Dan, her boyfriend Tony and a Sai Gon playboy Hoang. Linh Dan is in a relationship with Tony, a handsome sportsman who is every girl’s dream, including Yen. Trouble begins when Linh Dan spots Tony kissing Yen at a school party and decides to make him feel jealous and hurt for cheating and losing a girl like her.
She dresses up sexily to woo Hoang, has a one-night stand with him and then blackmails him into pretending to be her boyfriend under the threat that otherwise she would make public their sex video, which will get him into trouble as she is under 18. The movie stars new actors Kieu Minh Tuan (Hoang), Tony (Will from 365 music band), Chau Bui (Yen) and Kaity Nguyen (Linh Dan), who is 18 years old and moved to the US when she was 10. She is known for her online beauty videos and has no previous acting experience.

In the documentary category, the film Live and Tell, directed by Nguyen Hoang Lam, won the Golden Lotus prize. Two Silver Lotus awards went to films Home Coming and Vietnam Under Subsidy.
A Solution for Coastal Erosion, by director Phung Ngoc Tu, won the Golden prize for the best scientific film division, while the film Growing Sperm for Infertility in Males took Silver prize.
The Mannequin was awarded the Golden Lotus prize for best animated film, while Fugitive took the Silver Lotus. Actress Ha My was named best supporting actress for her work on The Girl from Yesterday, while Nhan Phuc Vinh took best supporting actor for the film The Way Station.
The organising committee also presented prizes for the best sound and music, the best artist, the best cameraman, the best film script in categories of documentary, science, feature and animation, the jury’s award and the best film voted by audiences.
More than 4,000 viewers in the central region enjoyed a week-long film festival screening Vietnam’s 129 best new and old films spanning genres of feature, documentary, scientific and animated categories. The southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau will host the 21st Vietnamese Film Festival next year.
