Italy supports Vietnam in East Sea peaceful solution

On November 22, during four-day visit to Italy at the invitation of Italian President Sergio Mattarella, President Tran Dai Quang and his Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella have affirmed their determination to deepen the Vietnam-Italy strategic partnership and Italy always supports Vietnam in East Sea peaceful solution.
At the talks, both sides agreed to intensify the exchange of all-level delegations and meetings, actualize the action plan on implementing the bilateral strategic partnership for 2017-2018, and maintain exchanges between the two countries’ Parties and citizens. The two leaders consented to outline orientations for development cooperation in line with the bilateral strategic partnership, focusing on vocational training, environmental protection, water resources management and flood forecast.


State President Tran Dai Quang and Italian President Sergio Mattarella affirmed the joint determination to enhancing Vietnam-Italy Strategic Partnership more extensively and effectively at their talks on the occasion of the Vietnamese State leader’s visit to Italy. They consented to strengthen high-ranking delegation exchanges, launch contents of the action plan on the Strategic Partnership in the 2017-2018 period as well as accelerate political and people-to-people exchanges.

The two sides assented to establish new orientations on development and cooperation suitable with the two nations’ relations, focusing on vocational training, environment, water management and flood warning. The host and the guest agreed to make cooperation in culture, education-training and science-technology prioritized areas in the future as well as soon launch a direct air route and share experience in realizing the Public Private Partnership projects in the future.

The two leaders stressed the significance of maintaining peace, stability, and navigation and aviation safety and freedom, consenting that disputes in the East Sea should be addressed by peaceful measures on the basis of respecting international law, the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, fully realizing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and soon reaching a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

In terms of national defence and security, they will increase the exchange of information and experience in crime combat, and beef up affiliation in training, relief operations, bomb and mine clearance, defence industry, and joining UN peace-keeping missions. Both nations will bolster coordination at multilateral forums like the UN, ASEAN, EU, the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and UNESCO.

The leaders highlighted the significance of maintaining peace, stability, and navigation and aviation safety and freedom. They held that disputes in the East Sea should be addressed by peaceful measures on the basis of respecting international law, the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, fully implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and soon reaching a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

The senior officials agreed that disputes in the East Sea should be settled through peaceful negotiations on the basis of respecting international law, the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and full implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) towards building a code of conduct (COC).
