Ho Chi Minh City Book Festival welcomes nearly one million readers.
The information was announced at the closing ceremony of the tenth Ho Chi Minh City Book Festival 2018, held on March 25.
The books on display at the festival met the demands of the customers. The booths had good communication and promotional programmes, quality products and a high turnover, according to the General Director of the Saigon Culture Company Truong Van Hien, who is head of the organising board.
This year’s event featured 900 booths of nearly 180 participants, including 40 foreign publishers from the US, the UK, France, and Singapore. The largest-ever volume of more than 300,000 book titles were on show to visitors, an increase of 27% over 2016. Visitors had the chance to meet and exchange with young singers and writers and were able to enjoy discounts of up to 50% on their purchases.
In 2016, the 9th Ho Chi Minh City Book Festival with themed “Book, Culture, Integration and Development”  was held in the evening at Le Van Tam Park in district 1. The fair is a biennial event which started in 2000 and has since grown to be the largest and most popular book and publishing show in the city.
It has come back for the 9th and biggest year in 2016, with 710 stalls run by 172 publishing and distributing units, among which are such first-time participants as Sage Publications, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt from the U.S., Kino from Japan, Kyowon from South Korea, and Harmonia Mundi from France, and others.
The fair features a total of 30,000 book titles printed over 30 million times, including 50 book launches and fan meetings.
