HCM City demanded to put first metro line into operation by 2021
So far, more than 63% of the workload has been completed, and the rate will reach 80% by the end of this year.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has requested Ho Chi Minh City’s agencies to speed up construction of the city’s first metro line so that it can conduct trial run in 2020 and come into commercial operation in 2021, local media reported.
PM Phuc made the request after inspecting the construction of the Metro Line No.1 on April 12 where he appreciated the effort and high determination of Ho Chi Minh City’s authorities, agencies, supervisors and workers in implementing the project with safety, quality and ensuring the progress.
In this occasion, Phuc also gave thanks to the Japanese government, embassy, and consulate general, as well as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for their support in implementing the project.
So far, more than 63% of the workload has been completed, and the rate will reach 80% by the end of this year.
The PM also made clear that Vietnamese government had worked with all related agencies to allow Ho Chi Minh City to adjust total cost of the project and ensure resources for the construction.
Ho Chi Minh City’s Metro Line No.1 connecting Ben Thanh Market and Suoi Tien Tourism Park is the first underground metropolitan railway in Vietnam. It has been long delayed and incurred huge cost overruns.
The metro line has total length of 19.7km with 2.6km underground, 17.1km skyline and 14 stations.
