About some 300 paintings created by children from different regions of Vietnam this year are on display at the Vietnam Cultural Arts Exhibition Centre in Hanoi.

The paintings were chosen from nearly 72,000 paintings of 1,000 children from schools nationwide which competed in the Vietnamese Children’ Fine Arts Awards 2017. They feature various themes including the landscapes, festivals, street life, members of their families, their friends and President Ho Chi Minh.
According to Vuong Duy Bien, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the awards are held every two years and contribute to the aesthetic education of children. “Through painting, children will know how to appreciate beauty and become good citizens. They can know how to love and share with others. The awards can also help discover young children who have aptitude for the arts,” he said.
Besides encouraging children to learn about science and society, teachers and families should also encourage children to learn fine arts because it can be the bridge helping children show their respect and love for friends, families, teachers, and show their vision on various issues.
The painting exhibition is part of activities to celebrate the International Children Day and the Vietnam’s 20th Children Festival at the centre until 9 pm on June 1.
The centre also displays a photo exhibition of traffic safety made by children. The event aims to popularise traffic safety, calling people to respect traffic code to avoid accidents.
Children can also read different kinds of books for free. A children’s playground was also created, as well as two mobile swimming pools. The Vietnam Cultural Arts Exhibition Centre is located at 2 Hoa Lu street, Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi. Entry to the activities is free.
