Hanoians enjoy dazzling firework at 30 sites on the 2018 Lunar New Year’s Eve.
Specifically, five locations for high-range fireworks include Hoan Kiem Lake (Hoan Kiem District), Thong Nhat Park (Hai Ba Trung District), Lac Long Quan flower garden (Tay Ho District), Van Quan Lake (Ha Dong District) and My Dinh National Stadium (Nam Tu Liem District).
Low-range fireworks will be displayed in the remaining 25 downtown  and outlying districts and towns and the exact locations being determined by the local authorities. In order to ensure security and order at the 30 sites planned for the firework shows, Chung requested the Hanoi Police to strengthen patrol to detect, detain and strictly handle wrongdoings, to ensuring security and order before, during and after the Tet festival.
The Hanoi Capital High Command is responsible for supervising the manufacturing, preservation, transportation, and use of fireworks, whilst also ensuring the absolute safety for the 2018 Tet festival and big events across the city during the occasion.
On  the 2017 Lunar New Year’s Eve, Hanoi decided not to organize firework shows, pursuant to the Directive No. 11 from the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat but held an array of cultural and art performances instead to entertain locals and visitors.
As announced by the Da Nang Department of Tourism, the central coastal city will also organize firework displays on the Han River to celebrate the New Year 2018, with funding from non-State sources.
Meanwhile, major Vietnamese cities, including Saigon, went fireworks-free last year following the Communist Party’s call for austerity. Ho Chi Minh City is going to throw four firework parties on New Year’s Eve instead of one as announced last week, pending government approval. The 15-minute shows are set to take place at Thu Thiem Tunnel that links districts 1 and 2, Dam Sen Park in District 11, Cu Chi Tunnels in Cu Chi District and Rung Sac Square in Can Gio District.
Fireworks are also planned for the Lunar New Year, or Tet, besides  the above-mentioned locations, in  the outlying districts of Nha Be and Hoc Mon. A light show in front of the city’s town hall in Le Thanh Ton Street and a countdown just a short walk away on Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in District 1 are also on the list. The city intends to use private funding to pay for the celebrations.
