About 184 high school students of Hanoi’s team took the exams in 12 subjects at the National Excellent Student Competition of the 2020-21 school year which took place simultaneously across the country between December 25 and 27.
The contest was held in utmost rigor, especially in the marking with two independent rounds to ensure accuracy and objectivity. As a result, there were 2,278 prize winners nationwide (accounting for nearly 50% of the total number of the contestants) with 93 first prizes, 544 second prizes, 718 third prizes and 923 consolation prizes.
According to the MoET, all the teams had winners, which was the highlight of the contest. Among them, 36 provinces/cities with high prize winners will be selected to take part in the 2021 regional and international Olympics competition.
In 2020, despite Covid-19, Hanoi's education sector has attained many achievements in national and international excellent student competitions with 338 awards and medals of all kinds.
In this year's contest, 4,562 candidates from 63 provinces and cities competed in 12 subjects including mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, informatics, literature, history, geography, English, Russian, French and Chinese.
Biology drew the major number of contestants with 501 students while only 61 students signed up for the Russian language exam. On average, most of the exams had more than 400 candidates each.
The exam questions were created by the MoET and sent to the examination boards of the provincial education and training departments. In addition to the written test this year, contestants had to take the speaking test in foreign language subjects as well as practical exams for three subjects including physics, chemistry, and biology.
