By participating in the Your World competition, Hanoi students can express themselves, unleash their creativity and demonstrate their foreign language skills.

Six middle school students from Hanoi have won the British Council's Your World film competition, beating over 3,000 contestants from around the world.

Students from Thanh Xuan Secondary School in Hanoi were announced as the national winners and second in the regional ranking in this year's competition, which involved British Council partner schools across East Asia, with their video focusing on climate change and solutions to the problem.

The winning video demonstrated the students' ability to work together to solve real problems in their own communities, putting their skills and learning to practical and positive use.

The national winning team from Thanh Xuan School shared their thoughts on taking part in this year's Your World competition: "The experience of the whole process, from writing the script to recording, editing and finishing the product to submit to the competition, has given us new insights and many unforgettable memories."

Nguyen Thanh Huyen, Principal of Thanh Xuan Secondary School, spoke about the positive impact of taking part in the competition: "By participating in the Your World competition, our students can express themselves, unleash their creativity in filmmaking, and confidently demonstrate their foreign language skills."

The Your World Video Competition is a flagship activity for British Council partner schools across its global network. Now in its eighth year, with the Your World 2023-24 theme pof "Climate Change: From Crisis to Action", the competition is directly linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13.

This year, submissions numbered more than 600 video entries, with over 3,000 students taking part from our Partner Schools across the global network.

“Having been a judge in various stages of this competition over the past few years, I know how much hard work and effort the students put into creating their entries. It is truly admirable and inspiring. All the videos were well structured, produced professionally, and included practical solutions to encourage the audience to take climate action, such as adopting sustainable fashion. Hanoi’s winning video used simple animation which told the story well. The video’s creativity, organization, and presentation were logical and could easily be used globally, not just here in Vietnam,” Davide Guarini Gilmartin, Senior Academic Manager of the British Council in Vietnam, said at the award ceremony.

By participating in this competition, students will develop core skills that will enable them to become well-rounded, creative, and critical citizens, ready to enter the job market and shape the future for themselves and future generations. Through Your World, the British Council hopes to inspire students to become drivers of positive change.

"Through various activities such as extra-curricular activities, collaborative projects, and global competitions such as the Your World video-making competition, students connect with their peers around the world, fostering their growth into conscientious global citizens," said Donna McGowan, Director of the British Council in Vietnam.
