Hanoi students bag seven medals at Int’l Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics

​Hanoi students won one gold, three silver, three bronze medals and an honorable award at the IOAA 2019, which drew the participation of 254 contestants from 46 countries and territories.
Eight students from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted won seven medals at the 13th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA 2019) held in Hungary between August 2 and 10, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.

The students from Hanoi won one gold, three silver, three bronze medals and an honorable award at the IOAA 2019, in which 254 contestants from 46 countries and territories all over the world participated.
The contestants took four competitions, including Theoretical, Data analysis, Team and Observational competitions.
Specifically, the gold medal went to Nguyen Manh Quan, an 11th grader, who was also honored with an absolute winner prize for his best scores.
Tran Quang Vinh, Trinh Nhat Huy (11th grader), and Phi Dung (12th grader) won silver medals. Meanwhile, Nguyen Le Duc Hoang, Nguyen Hoang Nam, Tran Khanh Nguyen (11th grader) bagged bronze medals. Nguyen Gia Khanh (11th grader) gained an honorable award.
Earlier, Nguyen Manh Quan gained numerous achievements at national and international contests, including the 2015 Asia-Pacific gold medal in Singapore, IMC gold medal for International Young Mathematicians 2016 in Thailand, among others.
The IOAA is an annual event for high performance high school students from all around the world. Established in Thailand 2006, it was a joint initiative of five countries - Thailand, Indonesia, Iran, China and Poland, with the aim of popularizing astronomy among high school students and fostering friendship and cooperation among young astronomers at international level, VNA noted.
The IOAA for high school students is organized to recognize the great role of astronomy and astrophysics in life, VNA said.
