The Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai requested Hanoi`s agricultural sector to end fragmented and small-scale production to ensure sustainable development.
"Targeting the world market, we have to improve the quality of agricultural products," said Hai at a meeting with Hanoi's farmers at Chuong My District on February 27.

Acknowledging the preliminary positive results of the safe vegetable production model at Chuc Son Collective Farming in Chuong My District, Hai expressed hopes that this model will be duplicated at other collective farms.

With this being said, Hai noted that the agricultural sector should take into account market demand, including Hanoi and export markets. In the coming time, it is important to expand production scale towards high-tech agriculture, in parallel with developing brands and improving productivity for sustainable development.

"Collective farming can increase efficiency through the improvement of production scale, increasing linkages between farmers and enterprises, as well as converting plant mechanisms," Hai stressed.

On the other hand, farmers at the meeting recommended Hanoi's leaders to tackle difficulties regarding lending policies, simplify administrative procedures, and create favorable conditions for better market access.

"Hanoi should support farmers developing brands for traditional products, with an aim to build trust among customers," said Nguyen Huu Hien, Chairman of Tam Hiep Commune Farmers' Association.

"The city also has to instruct related agencies on advising farmers on trademark registration and protection," Hien added.

On difficulties in the agricultural production chain, Hoang Thi Hau, Chairman of Thanh Xuan Commune Farmers' Association, proposed Hanoi to set up policies to support organic farming and promote the consumption of organic products.

There should also be strong involvement from the government in technical infrastructure investment to produce high added value products and supporting farmers to mechanize the agricultural production process, informed Nguyen Duc Lam, Chairman of Dong Truc Commune Farmers' Association.

"At the same time, the approval process should be sped up to implement projects in a timely manner, creating conditions for agricultural development toward high-technology application," Lam assessed.

Concluding the meeting, Hai was convinced that the future is bright for sustainable agricultural development.

"Demand for agricultural products in Hanoi remain large, with over 400 markets and 100 supermarkets, the city can ensure that the output of farmers will not go to waste as long as the quality and origin are clear," Hai added.

In the coming time, the Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee requested the Hanoi People's Council to review the efficiency of existing policies and provide maximum support for farmers.
