More than two million students from kindergarten to high school levels of on February 17 started online classes in Hanoi as the capital city has recorded new coronavirus cases.

The move aims to ensure teaching and learning quality as well as completing the schools’ plan and schedule.

“We have asked all teachers to adjust the teaching plan to suit the new situation and carefully prepare the content for the midterm quality test,” said Mr. Ha Xuan Nham, headmaster of Phan Huy Chu High School in Dong Da district.

Along with online learning, schools and educational institutions in Hanoi have actively coordinated with students' parents to manage and monitor their health.

Besides, all teachers and students in the city must make medical declaration after Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday to detect cases related to epidemiological factors, which will be reported to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training for handling as soon as possible.

Hanoi is one of the 52 localities cross Vietnam keeping students out of classroom after the Tet break amid rising coronavirus cases.

Last year, the first wave of Covid-19 led to the three-month-closure of schools across the country after Tet.

On February 15, the capital city recorded two new coronavirus-positive cases associated with a deceased Japanese man in the Somerset West Point hotel in Tay Ho district, who was found dead before being confirmed a Covid-19 patient Monday morning.

The two people are a 24-year-old woman in Ba Dinh district and a 43-year-old Japanese man who were in the same hotel, both of whom were colleagues of the deceased, who was working for Mitsui Vietnam.

Hanoi has recorded 37 Covid-19 patients since late January out of the nation's 2,311 cases.
