Lifelong learning can help people to update their own knowledge and widen their horizons.

Many districts in Hanoi organized diverse and meaningful activities in response to Lifelong Learning Week, starting from October 3, with the theme "Building self-studying capacity in the digital era".

The week, launched by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, delivers the message “Lifelong learning - key to every success”.

The department’s Director Tran The Cuong emphasized at the launching ceremony that lifelong learning is an indispensable need of people and society.

“The Vietnamese always attach importance to learning and consider learning a foundation for every victory. That valuable tradition has developed throughout the country’s history. In the digital era, lifelong learning has become more essential than ever. To meet this need, the education sector needs to come up with long-term solutions and strategies and a specific road-map to effectively support lifelong learning on digital technology platforms,” Cuong said.

He affirmed that the Vietnamese Government has regarded education-training and science-technology as a top national policy, creating a broad learning environment, in which all citizens have equal opportunities in study and education.

The Hanoi People's Committee has also directed all districts to implement the week in many flexible and creative forms and contents, mobilize maximum resources to build self-learning capacity for people and improve the quality of lifelong learning, contribute to the successful implementation of the Government's project "Building a learning society for the period 2021-2030".

In particular, the education sector will provide open educational resources and online learning programs, invest in facilities, equipment, and digital learning materials for school libraries. The activities within the week will be through different forms to raise the public’s awareness about the importance of continuous learning in all walks of life in the digital era.

On behalf of the leaders of education and training offices of 30 districts, Head of Education and Training Division of Cau Giay District Pham Ngoc Anh promised that managers, teachers, and education staff are determined to implement the 2023 Lifelong Learning Response Week.

Ngoc Anh underlined that lifelong learning can help people to update their own knowledge and widen their horizons.

"During its international integration, Hanoi wants to transform into a smart city, in which each resident is a digital citizen to update global knowledge conveniently. Thanks to continuous learning, they can better satisfy requirements at the workplace, improve their work performance, and sustainably develop themselves,” said the official.

In order to implement the contents of the "Lifelong Learning Response Week 2023", Standing Vice Chairman of Hoan Kiem District People's Committee Nguyen Quoc Hoan recommends that educational and training establishments encourage people to study to get stable careers and contribute to the city's development.

Hoan noted that the week would also encourage lecturers, teachers, students, and trainees to use and disseminate technological methods and digital applications to build self-study capacity and general knowledge in the digital era, contributing to turning the city into a smart, modern, and civilized one.

"The model of ‘Learning City’ can only be successfully built with the collaboration of all social classes. All localities and organizations should improve their self-learning ability to create a learning society based on digital technologies”, said the vice chairman.

Appreciating the efforts of Hanoi in establishing a learning community and praising the city's leading role in successfully creating a smart city-learning city model, Tong Lien Anh from the Continuing Education Department under the Ministry of Education and Training expressed her hope that the various activities in Hanoi's Lifelong Learning Week 2023 can boost the learning spirit in the public and will gain meaningful results.

On this occasion, the Hanoi People’s Committee delivered certificates of merit to groups with excellent achievements in the learning promotion movement and the establishment of a learning community in the city and handed over gifts to 73 needy students with good academic results.
