Hanoi praises patriarchs for contributions to community
The Hanoi People’s Committee held a ceremony on Dec 2 to honour 42 outstanding influential figures, head of hamlets and ethnic minority people living in 14 communes in the capital city.
The delegates were acknowledged for their positive contributions towards facilitating socio-economic development, maintaining security and social order in mountainous region and areas where ethnic minority groups reside.
They were also praised for encouraging local residents to follow Party guidelines, State policies and laws as well as preserving their cultural identity, reducing poverty, and fighting against social evils. Addressing the event, National Assembly Vice Chairman Do Ba Ty stressed that over the past year, patriarchs, head of hamlets and ethnic minority people have significantly contributed to the overall socio-economic development of the capital city, describing them as bridges linking local authorities and the citizens.
He asked the Hanoi city authorities to better the implementation of policies on ethnic affairs and provide ethnic people with the conditions necessary to escape from poverty and improve their living.
According to Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, Hanoi is now the home to more than 92,000 ethnic minority people from 50 ethnic groups, accounting for 1.2% of the total population of the city.
He stressed that Hanoi authorities have always attached great care when realising policies on ethnic affairs, which have brought about fruitful progresses in improving the livelihood of ethnic people, safeguarding their traditional cultural values, and enhancing the infrastructure in their living areas.
