The contests aim to find the best decoration schemes for the city in the run-up to the country's major celebrations and holidays in 2024.

All citizens of Vietnam as well as Vietnamese living overseas, are invited to submit their entries to two contests to glorify Hanoi, including a contest on urban lighting design and decoration and a poster design one on Hanoi's heritage and relics protection.

The two contests were launched by the Hanoi Municipal Department of Culture and Sports.

The themes of the lighting design competition are "Hanoi Celebrates Spring and Communist Party Anniversary in 2024", "Hanoi - the City of Peace" and "Hanoi - Creative City".

Contestants will compete in designing light modules, welcome gates, billboards, and others using LED lights or 3D projection technology.

The winning decorative lighting ideas will be used to adorn squares, flower gardens, major intersections, and streets throughout the capital during holidays, anniversaries, commemorations, and other major events in Hanoi and Vietnam in 2024.

Participants can submit as many entries as they like in all categories, with no quantity limit.

Meanwhile, the poster design contest aims to preserve and promote the value of Hanoi's culture, tangible and intangible heritage, and historical relics.

Its themes are to spread relics' historical and cultural significance, prevent encroachment and destruction of relics, call on people to practice civilized lifestyles in organizing festivals, and others.

A poster in the city celebrates the victory of the Dien Bien Phu battle (May 7, 1954) during the French War (1946-1954).

The lighting design contest will accept submissions from September 22 to 29 at the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, while the deadline for the poster design contest is the end of August 30 this year.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of these competitions, Tran Van Ha, Director of the Hanoi Exhibition Information Center, said that the organizing committee had received many high-quality submissions in the current competitions.

"The entries all met the aesthetic criteria and had a harmonious combination of traditional and modern elements," he said.

To promote Hanoi's cultural and historical values and to express political themes, he wished to receive contributions of a better caliber while maintaining a high level of aesthetics.
