Hanoi expects to draw more international visitors through significant moves
With the aims to attract more domestic and foreign tourists, Hanoi People`s Committee will pilot longer opening hours until 2 a.m. for restaurants, bars in Hoan Kiem districts, offer free wifi and open more walking area around Hoan Kiem Lake from September 1.
The changes will create more favourable conditions for the city's "smokeless industry" to develop strongly, according to experts.
Hanoi's Old Quarter is considered to be an attractive place that should not miss for domestic and foreign tourists.
So, Hanoi's authorities have issued several decisions to promote tourism development in the past time.
According to the statistics from the Vienam National Administration of Tourism, in the first 6 months of this year, Hanoi welcomed 1.5 million international visitors, an increase of nearly 40% over the same period last year, with tourism revenues at nearly 55,000 billion VND.
The number of tourists to Hanoi has constantly rised, accounting for 35% of the total international visitors to Vietnam, bringing the key revenue source for the capital and the country.
According to a recent decision by the municipal People’s Committee,
restaurants and bars in Hoan Kiem district will be allowed to open until 2 AM instead of 24 PM as before since September 1.
The rule is only being applied from Friday to Sunday on a trial basis.
The aim of the pilot plan is to draw more tourists, particularly foreign tourists, and control late-night business operations in Hanoi capital.
The decision has received positive feedback from travel companies who hope that it will make tourists stay longer in Hanoi.
Besides, according to the recently-announced decision of the municipal People’s Committee, more streets around Hoan Kiem Lake will be shut to traffic for pedestrians at weekends from September 1.
The streets will be closed to traffic from 19:00 - 2:00 am in summer and 18:00 to 2:00 am in winter from Friday to Sunday and on some holidays.
The streets include Dinh Tien Hoang, Le Lai, Le Thach, Dinh Le, Nguyen Xi, Trang Tien (from Ngo Quyen to Dinh Tien Hoang), Hang Khay, Le Thai To, Hang Trong (from St. Joseph’s Cathedral to Le Thai To), Nha Tho and the Cathedral square.
The piloted period will run until the Lunar New Year (Tet) Holiday 2017.
The first pedestrian streets in Hanoi - Hang Ngang, Hang Dao, Hang Duong and Dong Xuan in the Old Quarter - were inaugurated in 2004, where visitors could walk, shop and sample street foods.
In addition, Hanoi will offer free wifi around Hoan Kiem Lake next month.
Twenty-one hotspots are being installed around Hoan Kiem Lake as Hanoi prepares to launch its free public wifi service in the area from September 1.
Visitors to Hoan Kiem Lake, a famous destination, will be able to roam using the free wifi hotspots.
The free wifi hotspots will debut at the same time Hanoi city starts to turn streets around Hoan Kiem Lake into walking-only streets every evening from Friday to Sunday to make the area more tourist-friendly.
