Using 3D mapping technology to create three-dimensional representations of the Dien Bien Phu painting, the Hanoi display is enhanced with sound and lighting effects.

Hanoi locals and tourists now have the opportunity to learn more about the Dien Bien Phu campaign through a modern art form: 3D mapping projection with narration.

This is an event organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications in coordination with the Hanoi People's Committee to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954-2024).

This video mapping show will be on display at the Monument of Sacrifice at Hoan Kiem Lake from May 3 to May 5.

The giant painting of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign at the Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum in the northern province of Dien Bien was displayed using 3D mapping technology.

Visitors, especially those who haven't had the chance to visit Dien Bien, will be able to enjoy the unique artwork and gain a deeper insight into the significance and magnitude of the 'world-shaking' victory.

The extraordinary circular oil-on-canvas painting measures 132m long, 20.5m high and 42m in diameter, with an additional 6m embossed section, covering a total area of over 3,200 sq m. It will be created by 200 painters starting in November 2019 and completed in May 2022, and features over 4,500 characters.

Depicting the "56 days and nights of tunneling through mountains, hiding in bomb shelters, enduring pouring rain and surviving on rice balls", the painting illustrates the harsh conditions faced by the Vietnamese Army and people in achieving the "Dien Bien Phu Victory that shook the world."

Using 3D mapping technology to create three-dimensional representations of the battle of Dien Bien Phu, the Hanoi display is enhanced with sound and lighting effects to evoke deep emotions in a vibrant, heroic and epic setting. Viewers will be able to experience the entire show of the 56-day and night battle.

The picture show is divided into four segments: The People Leaving for Battle, The Epic Prelude, The Historic Confrontation and Dien Bien Phu Victory, each segment lasting 10 minutes.

The organisers hope that the 3D projection of the painting will help spread the story to all generations of people, especially the young, so that the victory of Dien Bien Phu will be forever etched in the hearts of the Vietnamese people.
