FVH Film Night in April 2017
Screening of three Vietnamese short films & discussion with the directors.
FVH Film Night:
1. “Beautiful bed” (Giường xinh) – Dir. Ha Le Diem
Two youngsters leave a northern town and go south to work in a furniture store. Each day they travel by truck from the early morning to late night, to deliver and assemble tables, beds, cabinets for clients in Saigon. The more they assemble, the bigger their dreams are for their own families.
34 minutes. English subtitles. 2. “Summer attention” (mùa hè, nghiêm) – Dir. Le Thu Minh
The story is about a summer activity class led by An, who is a young party member. He longs to create healthy and respectable activities for children in the immigrant village.
35 minutes. English Subtitles
3. “Banh Bao Bikes” – Dir. Brenda Mattick
Mr Tuan, Vice-President of the Hanoi Old & New Bicycle Club, runs a busy Banh Bao ‘fried dumpling’ street food stall. In his spare time – sometimes long after midnight – he finds, buys, restores and rides vintage bicycles from the French colonial era. Tuan remembers the ‘Subsidy Era’ when bicycles cost more than houses. His father had owned a bicycle, but Tuan and his six siblings weren’t allowed to touch it, let alone ride it. This bike was their only form of transport: a precious asset.
18 minutes. English Subtitles
FVH Film Night in April 2017 will be screened on Thu 20 Apr 2017, 7.30 – 9 pm at Cà phê Thứ bảy, 3A Ngo Quyen, Hanoi
