In Vietnam, any holiday falls on the weekend, people will be entitled to a substitute day.

Foreign laborers in Vietnam are entitled to 11 days off to celebrate the 2022 New Year, according to the country’s 2019 Labor Code.

Besides, they will have two more days off work for the traditional New Year's Day and National Day of their countries during the year.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese laborers will have three days off the 2022 New Year holidays, lasting from January 1 to 3, according to Ha Tat Thang, Director of the Department of Work Safety under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA).

The 2019 Labor Code promulgates the laborers are entitled to one day off with full salary on January 1 each year, Thang said, adding that as the 2022 New Year's Day falls on Saturday, people will be given the substitute day the next Monday.

"From 2021, Vietnamese workers will have a total of 11 days for vacation, increasing one day off for National Day (September 2)," Thang told The Hanoi Times.

Regarding the 2022 Lunar New Year holiday, the MoLISA proposed that laborers will be given nine days off from January 29 to February 6.

Almost all of consulted parties agreed with the MoLISA's proposal, and it waits for the approval of the Government, Thang noted.

Tet is the biggest and most important festival in Vietnam. Millions of migrant workers in major cities return to their homes before Lunar New Year's Eve. It is also a prolific season for the retail and travel businesses as the consumption and excursion demand rises.
