Foreign arrivals surge sharply

Viet Nam welcomed 3.1 million of foreign guests in the first four months of 2014, representing a year-on-year increase of 27.3%, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
Around 2.5 million of foreigners travelled by air, up 23.5% against the same period last year. The number of people arrived in Viet Nam on road was around 584,500 or a year-on-year increase of 27.2%. Meanwhile, 34,500 others travelled by sea, down 56.1%.
Up to 1.9 million foreigners came to Viet Nam for tourism, up 25.3% against the same period last year; 516,900 for business (up 27.2%) and 534,000 for visiting relatives (up 33.1%).
Almost all countries and territories saw rising number of guests to Viet Nam of which those came from China was 804,100 (up 46.9%); followed by the Republic of Korea 298,800 (up 6.7%); Japan 222,300 (up 8.5%); the US 176,200 (up 6.7%); Russia 155,100 (up 37.4%); and Taiwan 144,300 (up 24.3%)./.
