By Hồng Nguyễn 21:15, 2017/10/09
An exhibition of maps and documents, entitled ‘Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes — historical evidence and legal grounds’, is opening at the museum of the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai.
The exhibition showcased hundreds of documents, artifacts, publications and nearly 100 maps that have been collected and published previously by domestic and international researchers and scholars.
Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung said that the Party and State always upheld the consistent viewpoint of Vietnam on its sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos and the rights of Vietnam on the sea, in accordance with international laws, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982, and Vietnam’s policy of resolving all disputes in the East Sea (South China Sea) through peaceful measures.

Hung said despite having no sea, the Lao Cai authorities have paid close attention to improving the country’s propaganda on the sea and islands, as well as promoting education on patriotism and stressing on the responsibility of the local people in protecting the nation’s sovereignty over the sea and islands.
The exhibition will run until October 10.
On October 5, the Ministry of Information and Communications, in conjunction with the Lao Cai People’s Committee, also held a seminar to improve the effectiveness of propaganda on the sea and islands, which saw the participation of more than 200 delegates.
