Exhibition “Khoảng Lắng VUÔNG” in memoriam of painter Nguyen Lai with square canvas paintings.
Painter/photographer Nguyen Lai was born in 1948 and died on 12 Jan 2016. Passionate with painting since childhood, due to family reasons, he had to postpone his dream and began the career of photography and has achieved much success. After five years in the United States, he returned to his hometown in 2001, set up his studio and painted again besides photography. The most famous exhibition of him was “Cõi tĩnh lặng” (2015) at IDECAF.
When coming back to Vietnam, Nguyen Lai has been actively involved in art scene in HCMC. As a member of the Mekong Art Club of HCM Fine Arts Association, he has participated in many annual club exhibitions and organized several group exhibitions with other artists.
Throughout his painting career, Nguyen Lai is loyal to abstract art. He chose square canvas for his works, painted mostly by flying and named his lineage as “square abstraction”.
