This annual cultural event is jointly organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam, Embassies of the EU member states and the European Cultural Institutes, introducing European diversified cultural heritage in general and the cinema heritage in particular to the Vietnamese public.
In this 19th edition of the European Film Festival, the selected films mainly focus on the theme of "Family". This is a familiar yet challenging topic for filmmakers to approach and exploit new perspectives. Through a collection of drama, comedy, adventure, and children movies, the festival showcases different aspects and stories in the family lives of European people. Notably, most of participating movies this year have won awards at several prestigious international film festivals. This is a unique opportunity for Vietnamese audiences to enjoy highly-acclaimed European movies which are not shown in Vietnam's commercial cinemas.
"In this European Year of Cultural Heritage, we are proud to share with Vietnamese friends our precious heritage: cinematography. This year's main theme is "family", which is core to our lives and societies. We shed a light on European people, culture and lifestyle as a cultural bridge to bring us closer to the people of Vietnam, and make our partnership stronger", said Head of the EU Delegation to Vietnam, Ambassador Bruno Angelet.
Since its first public appearance in 2000, the European Film Festival has become a prominent and anticipated annual cultural event in Vietnam. Through lively art footages, the festival has become a bridge connecting Vietnam to not only the European cinema heritage, but also to the vibrant and enticing European culture and lifestyle that cannot be blended with one another.
