EU official shows special concern over China’s recent acts

The EU High Representative for Foreign Relations and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, expressed her special concern over China’s recently acts in the East Sea, saying these acts would affect the security environment in the region.

During a phone conversation with Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh on May 29, Ashton called on the relevant parties to seek peaceful and cooperative solutions in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, to continue ensuring maritime security and freedom.

She also called on the parties to take measures to ease tension and take no unilateral actions that spoil peace and security in the region.
Regarding the relations between Viet Nam and the EU, both sides vowed to redouble their efforts for early conclusion of the free trade agreement prior to the 10th ASEM Summit and closely coordinate for the success of the ASEAN-EU Foreign Ministers’ Meeting scheduled on July 23, 2014 in Brussels./.
