Director Michele Placido is coming to Vietnam

Famed Italian actor and director Michele Placido, best known for his role as inspector Corrado Cattani in the TV series La Piovra, is coming to Vietnam in June to participate in a variety of cultural, fashion and cinematography activities.

At a seminar on Vietnam-Italy cinematography cooperation in Rome on January 15, he said that he would bring with him a short film to be screened. Without revealing all the details about the films content, Placido noted that he invited a famous actor and friend from the US to act in it, adding that some Vietnamese actors and actress are also in it.

As a director, he expressed hope that on the occasion, he would have the opportunity to locate Vietnamese filmmakers who are desirous of cooperating with him on film projects.

He said he wants to produce a Vietnam-Italy film portraying on the big screen the deep and abiding friendship between the two countries.

Vietnamese actors, actresses and stage directors of two films Huong Ga (Perfume) and Hiep Si Mu (Blind Knight) also participated in a January 15 seminar on cinematography cooperation between Vietnam and Italy in Rome.      

They hoped to learn the trade of film-making and film screenings in foreign markets from Italian producers.

After introducing about Vietnam’s cinematography, Vietnamese actress Truong Ngoc Anh said Vietnam’s cinematography has developed well and has left a good impression at international film festivals over the past few years.

She sent a message to Italian filmmakers that Vietnamese film producers stand ready to cooperate with Italian partners in both filmmaking and film distribution.

Italian stage director Stefano Balassone said the Italian Government and other cultural agencies are aiming for broadening cooperative relations in cinematography with Vietnam.

After the conclusion of the seminar, two Vietnamese films Huong Ga (Perfume) and Hiep Si Mu (Blind Knight) are to be screened on January 16-18 in Rome.

The activities are parts of Vietnam Cultural Week in Rome, ahead of Vietnam’s larger participation in the Milan world fair EXPO 2015 set for May in Milan.
