Designer Minh Hanh wins Thailand’s fashion award

Fashion designer Minh Hanh has been named among the ten best ASEAN artisans at Thailand’s ASEAN Selection 2016 Award for her contributions to Asian fashion.
She was honoured by the Support Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand, which was set up by the Thai royal family to support the traditional art industry.
The ASEAN Selection 2016 Award ceremony will be held on August 15 at the Museum Siam in Bangkok. An exhibition will be arranged for the ASEAN artisans to introduce their countries’ products.
Hanh said that she will bring traditional products of the Mong ethnic group in Ha Giang province to the ceremony, including hand-made 3D phoenix embroideries and brocade cloths.
Hanh was born in 1961 in the central Highlands city of Pleiku. After graduating from the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts College, she became a fashion designer. Her creative designs have won her several international awards.
In 1997, she won the New Designer at Asia Collection Makuhari Fashion Show in Japan. She was also presented with title Chevalier of Culture and Art in France in 2006 and Japan’s Fukuoka Prize in Arts and Culture category in 2015.
