Deputy Prime Minister: Tourism development not just for economy
“For every Vietnamese, tourism development is not only for profit but also to promote a traditional culture deeply imbued with advancement and national identity that, despite its plain and simplicity, still make foreign tourists crave to experience”, the Deputy Prime Minister shares.
On July 8, in Hanoi, the Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam attended the award ceremony of the Vietnam Tourism in 2017.
The Vietnam Tourism Award honors companies that have contributed positively to the development of the tourism industry over the years. The organization team selected 91 noteworthy enterprises to present the 2017 awards.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said that after the national conference on tourism in August 2016, the Politburo has issued a resolution on developing tourism into a key economic sector. Furthermore, the National Assembly has passed the revised Tourism Law, laying a solid foundation for the development of the tourism industry in the coming years.
In addition, there are heavy responsibilities to increase the contribution of tourism to GDP growth and to effectively promote natural values, monuments, cultural heritage, lifting the ranking of Vietnam tourism in the region and in the world. Moreover, the tourist environment needs to improve with many shortcomings, inadequacies or limitations.
“In terms of tourism competitiveness, Vietnam only ranked 67 out of 134 countries. Notably, everyone says that Vietnam has natural conditions and great potentials to develop the tourism industry such as the friendly people, the enthusiastic attitudes towards foreigners, a strong traditional culture and heritages, etc. However, why does Vietnam tourism is still at the low rank in the world?” the Deputy Prime Minister asks.
“The mission and task that citizens and the nation entrusted to and rely on the efforts of the tourism industry are considerable. Therefore, responsible agencies need to be more and more creative, more and more determined,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasizes and acknowledges the efforts and responsibilities of ministries and administrations at all levels to handle the necessary work to help the tourism industry solve many difficulties and obstacles. As a result, the tourism industry has developed better in the past years. In addition, people who directly provide tourism services and all Vietnamese residents, with their hospitality and social responsibility, have made every effort to improve the Vietnamese tourism environment, overcoming a great amount of shortcomings.
Commending the enterprises effort at the award ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam expresses his hope for the appearance of many more medium sized enterprises in the upcoming Vietnam Tourism Award. Even with acceptable quality services, these kind of enterprises should be showing their effort in creativity with remarkable progression, as well as to contribute to the development of tourism environment such as taking part in training human resources. Especially Mr. Dam is appreciated with ideas, suggestion and start-ups from Vietnam youth in tourism sector regardless ther sizes.
“Tourism development will contribute to the growth of the country economy, but more importantly is for people to reap the benefit from tourism to improve their living standard, especially those are living in rural and poor area. Thanks to tourism that image of Vietnam can be promoted together with all its cultural and ethical values, making a widespread and profound impression on international tourists” – The Deputy Prime Minister says.
Bearing this in mind, the Deputy Prime Minister requests all related agencies to take part in the effort of making substantial changes to tourism and overcome challenges.
Reminding his recent meeting conclusion on training human resources for tourism, the Deputy Prime Minister stresses that “in overall everything seems to be in place and rational, but in fact it is the opposite. Even a small obstacle if can be solve will create positive impact”.
With this being said, in parallel with the effort of improving the tourism environment, it is important to create favorable conditions for enterprises to develop and invest in tourism sustainably.
