Da Nang among world’s 10 best places for foreigners to live overseas in 2018
Ha Phuong 11:13, 2018/02/09
Da Nang city is one of the top 10 best places in the world for foreigners to live in 2018, according to international tourism magazine Live and Invest Overseas (LIO).
Da Nang City.
Da Nang City.
Da Nang city is the only Vietnamese destination on the list. “Da Nang is the third-largest city in Vietnam behind the capital Hanoi and business hub Ho Chi Minh City. Were it not for the skyscrapers, bridges, malls, endless streams of motorbikes, and the whir of air conditioners, today’s Da Nang could easily be 1960s Da Nang,” the magazine wrote.
In recent years, Da Nang has been the designated tourism jewel of Vietnam, a gorgeous destination with several UNESCO World Heritage sites nearby, including Hoi An to the south, the ancient capital of Hue to the north, and the ruins of Hindu temples at My Son in the neighboring Quang Nam province, according to the magazine article.
In 2017, Da Nang hosted 6.6 million visitors, a year-on-year increase of 19%, and earned more than VND19.4 trillion (US$853.6 million) from tourism, up 20.6% from 2016 and fulfilling 104.9% of the set target.
The city was honoured last year as “Asia’s Leading Festival and Event Destination” at the World Travel Awards Asia & Australasia Gala Ceremony. Online marketplace and hospitality service Airbnb also announced a list of the world’s top 10 destinations for 2018, on which Da Nang ranked fifth, posting a 255% surge in bookings.
Da Nang hopes to forge tourism links with the central and Central Highland regions, prioritising sea-based tourism, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) tourism, culture-history tourism, and ecological tourism. It regularly hosts tourism, sport, cultural, and festival events at national, regional, and international levels to promote the city as a friendly destination, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, Ho Ky Minh was quoted as saying.
In addition, Danang hopes to welcome nine million visitors by 2020, with 30% being international holidaymakers, and rake in VND31.5 trillion (US$1.38 billion) in revenue, he added.
