Hanoi will conduct art and literature programs to help artists fully contribute their talents and wisdom to the capital city's socio-economic development.

These programs will be carried out under a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Hanoi Literature and Art Union (HLAU), the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, and the Hoan Kiem District People's Committee this week.

According to Tran Quoc Chiem, with 4.000 members, HLAU has held a series of seminars, including "Literature and Art with the Development of capital tourism"; "Promoting social resources, boosting literary and artistic creativity in the development of the capital's cultural industry"; "Literature and art participate in protecting the ideological foundation of the Party, fight against wrong views"; "The role of literature and art in improving the skills and capacity" aesthetics of the public, especially young people"; "The role of literature and art in preserving the heritage of the Old Quarter"...

In 2022, nine associations under HLAU jointly held the Hanoi Theater Festival, the Hanoi Best Singing Voice Contest, activities to celebrate Hanoi's Liberation Day (October 10), art performance commemorating the 50th anniversary of "Hanoi-Dien Bien Phu in the air" victory, among others.

Speaking at the conference, People's Artist Nguyen Quang Vinh, Chairman of the Hanoi Music Association, asked for financial support for the association's activities.

"Despite their old age, the association members still enthusiastically participate in activities. Because of the limited budget, it's hard for us to run activities regularly," Vinh said.

People's Artist Tran Quoc Chiem called on the city government to develop a strategy for developing art and literature.

"We believe there should be a fundamental and comprehensive innovative spirit to increase public investment and create new mechanisms to nurture talent," Chiem said.

He added that according to specific regulations, the city government should attract investment in the sector from social resources, especially from the business community and foreign enterprises, in addition to the public budget.

Vu Thu Ha, Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi City People's Committee, asked the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and other departments to support HLAU based on their professional tasks.

Nguyen Doan Toan, Head of the Communication and Education Commission of the Hanoi Party Committee, acknowledged the positive contribution of HLAU and artists to the city.

"Hanoi leaders always provide opportunities for artists to dedicate their talents and wisdom to the city," Toan said.

He suggested that HLAU continue to study and thoroughly grasp the Party's cultural and artistic policies and guidelines while improving the quality and effectiveness of creativity.

In the era of globalization, international integration, and Industry 4.0, artists must uphold the spirit of "solidarity-creativity-innovation-development" to build and develop HLAU stronger and more effectively.

"It is necessary to enhance the spirit of solidarity and the leading role of HLAU to create strength so that HLAU can truly become the common roof of more than 4,000 artists in the capital," he said.
